We love Sziget festival and here's why!
Summer is synonymous with festivals, and in August, visiting Budapest has long since become almost an unwritten rule. No matter what happens, one way or another, with one friend or another, I always end up going back to the Sziget festival. And like me, I'm afraid, thousands of others. If you've been there, you'll understand what I'm talking about. And if you've never been there, I'm sure that at least once someone will have tried to convince you to go. And if none of this has happened to you, I suggest you rethink the life you lead, or change your friends. Beyond the "jokes", these are some of the reasons why we love the Hungarian festival so much.
Mix of languages, colors and cultures
The people are the main reason, that's for sure. The festival takes place over six days and gathers an average number of almost 100 000 attendees per day from all over the world. And in none other festival this is more true that at Sziget festival, there's people from literally everywhere sharing their passion for music, in a unique environment, with a very warm temperature. To put it simply, there's no other place like this island to make meaningful friends or live unforgettable loving adventures!
The vibe comes before the music
No matter what you´re into, you will always find very cool artists to see. With 6 days of festival, and a large number of artists confirmed coming from 65 different countries, that’s guaranteed. And yet, not everyone would mention the lineup as their first reason to attend the festival. Sziget just has a magical vibe that you have to experience by yourself!
Going alone? No problem!
The very thought of going to a music festival alone can sound like a nightmare for almost all mortals, because there is no greater feeling of loneliness than when you are surrounded by people "and you have no one to talk to". That may be, but not at Sziget. Just a few meters away from the main stage there is a camping area for those traveling alone to the festival. The area may have started as a cry for help from a few, but going solo has become a favorite choice for many year after year.
Camp wherever you want. Or don't!
Although the festival has changed over the years, and the free camping spaces have been reduced, the spirit and essence of the festival lives on. The gates of the island where the festival is held are open 24 hours a day and basically you can camp (almost) anywhere you want. For this reason you will see tents everywhere, even just a few meters away from the main stage. Of course, there are also quieter and more exclusive areas and there is the option of renting cabins. If you still prefer the comfort of your own shower and air conditioning, the city is literally minutes away and offers countless options to make your week a little more relaxing.
The program
Yes, the program. Because music aside, Sziget offers theater, lectures, circus, exhibitions, workshops, sports and a large etcetera of activities that will challenge your energy levels!
