Kosmonaut festival

Kosmonaut festival

Next Friday July 5th, the seventh edition of the Kosmonaut festival will begin. A festival that since its first edition in 2013 has become one of the most interesting events within the German festival scene.

Close to the city of Chemnitz, Kosmonaut is guarantee of great atmosphere and good music in a beautiful location next to the Rabenstein reservoir in the heart of a Saxony region that became orphan after Splash! Festival moved out (its now located in Ferropolis).

Promoted by Chemnitz band Kraftclub, the festival owes its name to Sigmund Jähn, the first German cosmonaut (he traveled to space on August 26th, 1978 in the Soyuz 31 mission), originative from the now called Muldenhammer, a small town near Chemnitz.

In the same way that Germany is not only Berlin, when it comes to festivals Germany is not only Rock am Ring, Hurricane or Lollapalooza, as it is also Melt!, Reeperbahn, Fusion or Kosmonaut to name a few medium-sized festivals that may not be very popular abroad but they are the perfect setting in which to enjoy the authentic taste of German bands in a much more relaxed atmosphere, with affordable prices and without suffering the big crowds of major festivals.

And as usual, the Kosmonaut poster this year is loaded with powerful German music. On Friday, among many others there will be playing bands like Leoniden, Kitschkrieg or Bosse and on Saturday there will be the long-awaited Giant Rooks, which will be followed by three very different Berlin bands. The Germans of adoption Parcels will come first, then the indie-pop of Von Wegen Lisbeth and the hip hop of K.I.Z. will close the night in the main stage. In the end Kosmonaut festival will held more than 50 shows divided in two days.

Although the biggest uncertainty lies in knowing the name of the main headliner that will play on Friday, that as it happens every year, the festival is carefully keeping it secret. After Kraftclub (2013), Fettes Brot (2014), Marteria (2015), Die Fantastischen Vier (2016), Beginner (2017) or Rin, Bausa, Hayiti, Cro, Casper & Marteria (2018), on the betting page on the website of the festival, the people are divided between AnnenMayKantereit (28.41%), Alligatoah (11.12%) and Dendemann (11.08%). Or why not perhaps Seed? In any case, on Friday we will finally find out!
