20 Music Venues up to 500 people in Berlin
Although Berlin is famous for its electronic music scene and the unique clubs, the city also has a great live music variety with many venues where to enjoy music of any genre. Here is a selection of my favorite spots with a capacity of up to 500 people!
Privatclub
Privatclub is located in an old post house in the heart of Kreuzberg between the stations of Schlesisches Tor and Görlitzer Bahnhof. It has capacity to locate up to 200 people and its interior design includes 70s furniture. Cozy place, perfect setting for all kinds of concerts on a small scale.

SO36
Iconic Berlin club, originally focused on punk music and often frequented in the 70s was by musicians such as Iggy Pop or David Bowie. In those days the club rivaled New York's CBGB as one of the finest new-wave venues in the world. However unlike CBGB the venue still stands as of today and remains a fixture on the Berlin music scene championing new artists, while staying true to its punk past. It has a capacity of 250 people.

Gretchen
Gretchen is located in the middle of Berlin-Kreuzberg and stands out due to the beautiful vaulted ceiling and delicate columns. The venue has been the former stables of the Prussian 1st Guards Dragoon Regiment Queen Victoria of Great Britain and Ireland from 1854, so Gretchen presents itself in a historic charm combined with a cool club design. Columbia Theater is a pleasant venue with very good acoustics and an exterior design reminiscent of the Einstein Tower of Potsdam, reference of German expressionism by Erich Mendelsohn. Both Columbia venues are located opposite to the old Tempelhof airport, and are former US leisure facilities. The history of the venues goes back to 1951, when the Columbiahalle opened as a sports hall for American soldiers posted in Berlin and Columbia Theater, directly next-door was a 400-seat cinema, also for the American soldiers.

Madame Claude
Like Loophole, Madame Claude used to be a brothel and today is a small and cozy place where to enjoy music. Initiated by the childish dream to play in a backwards flat, the decoration of the main room of Madame Claude is a reconstitution of an apartment which would have been built upside down challenging the laws of gravity with furnitures on the ceiling.
