Freddie Mercury's Christmas Gifts

Freddie Mercury's Christmas Gifts

Although his music will last forever, Freddie sadly passed away 30 years ago on November 24th of 1991. In these three decades, his legend hasn’t stopped growing as only happens with unrepeatable artists like he was. And there are many anecdotes and stories about someone who undoubtedly squeezed life to the fullest throughout his 45 years of life.

In this way, it is well known that the charismatic leader of Queen was an exaggerated person, passionate about excesses but above all, immensely generous. Always carrying a bag, this never lacked an agenda with the dates of the birthdays of all his friends and after his death it is public knowledge that his large inheritance went to his ex-partner and great friend Mary Austin (it was her who inherited his mansion in Kensington and the rights to his songs) and who was his partner until the day of his death Jim Hutton (who together with Freddie's parents and sister received a significant amount of money).

However, now that we are in Christmas, it is worth remembering an anecdote which undoubtedly defines the type of person that surely he was. Days before he died, Freddie contacted ‘Fortnum & Mason’ and gave them a list of names of friends to whom the luxury stores from London should send a Christmas basket every year. Thirty years later, those lucky friends continue to receive Freddie's basket.
