Seafret @ Bi Nuu in Berlin
Going back to February 25th, barely two weeks before this annoying and worrying virus have forced to cancel all the musical agenda until who knows when, British duo Seafret (plus a called-up drummer) came to Berlin where they performed at Bi Nuu in what ended up being a warm gift for a cold Winter night.
Seafret started back in 2011 after Jack Sedman and Harry Draper met at an open mic night near their hometown of Bridlington (UK). Both very influenced by their musicians parents, back then their experience was quite different. While Harry was a few years younger but an experienced musician, Jack had literally just discovered his voice. Nevertheless, the two started right away. "We started writing songs from scratch," explains Jack Sedman. "I had never written a song before. I loved the music, but I had never written anything. It fit immediately. That's how we learned to write: through games and the chemistry between us.” After gaining some traction online they moved to London and in September 2014, they released their debut album “Give Me Something”.
The program had scheduled Teepee (read the conversation we had before the show) as the support band for the night. Surely a positive surprise for those who didn't know the Czech duo, certainly a luxury support band for a very special evening.
Honest and captivating, Seafret's music has a positive contagiousness. With texts about life and its implications, the two musicians demonstrate an extraordinarily good ability to observe. And they sound like just one person on stage. Incredible vocals painted by mesmerizing guitar chords for an emotional show, where its simplicity only boost the passion and power of it. Whether you were one of the groupies of the first rows of Bi Nuu, were there with your partner or just went alone, surely Seafret music gave you shivers.
I could see an attentive audience, losing track of time enraptured by the amount of feelings contained in each of the songs of Seafret´s setlist, creating an atmosphere similar to that evoked by their bands name (it references both the mist that rolls in from the North Sea during the summer, and a pun on a guitar fretboard). There is love between these two. There is the complicity of those who know that with just a voice and a guitar they have enough. The Berlin show was full of emotions, it was simple and pure. There is no arrogance in these two brilliant musicians that found in Bi Nuu an audience willing to absorb all they came to offer.
